Moom Organic Hair Removal Kit with Lavender
I was born with a rather serious set of eyebrows, so I started waxing in the eighth grade and I’ve been doing it ever since. But then, I moved hours away from my esthetician and had to figure something out quick. It can be hard to trust someone with waxing any area of your body, especially your face. When performed improperly, waxing can lift and/or burn the skin. It can also cause scarring, not to mention leave you with uneven or overly-thinned brows.
I found a solution that’s worked well for the last year from Moom Spa. It’s a sugaring hair removal kit that does the job safely and quickly at home. I bought my kit from Ulta, but it can also be purchased online directly from Moom. The kit comes with a sugaring paste that can be heated in the microwave, along with reusable strips and wooden applicators. The strips and applicators both come in two sizes and are easy to clean. There is also a video available on the Moom web site, which explains how the product works while also demonstrating how to get the best results. If you’ve never tried this before, I highly suggest watching the video so that you can observe the technique before trying it yourself.
One of the advantages to sugaring your own brows, lip or legs, is that it is a lot less expensive. I paid roughly $17 for my kit and that’s nearly half the cost of one of my eyebrow waxing treatments. And because my brows have been waxed every three weeks, for a good number of years, they are already shaped. If I do happen to make a mistake applying the sugaring paste, I can wash it off– something that is much more difficult to do with wax. And I’m careful to test the heat of the sugar paste before applying it, so I haven’t experienced any lifting or burning.
My own tips:
1. If you use retinol products or the like (alpha or beta hydroxy acids, for example), you need to take precautions with hair removal and it is best to speak with an expert before making any attempts yourself. And I’m serious about this because certain products will thin the skin and make lifting/scarring a very real concern. I use an AHA serum myself but stop applying it three days before sugaring and then one day after. Since everyone is different, it’s better to err on the side of caution than lift your skin. In all my years of waxing, my skin has only lifted once and I was thankfully left scar-free thanks to my esthetician’s skill and a tube of Mederma.
2. Because skin is quite delicate after sugaring or waxing, I apply a mixture of tea tree and lavender oils when I’m done. Tea tree oil is known to have anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties, which is great. Lavender is not only antiseptic, it also soothes the skin and is often used to ease bumps after hair removal.
