I wasn’t born a jewelry person. In fact, I didn’t start wearing jewelry on a daily basis until a few years ago. And while I used to wear the occasional necklace or ring, I tended to avoid earrings to the point that the piercings in my ears have tried to close more than once. It’s a little odd because I’ve always liked earrings and even before my ears were pierced, I’d already collected quite a few pairs. The trouble was that I kept my earrings in a jewelry box where I never saw them and that made it hard to remember to put them on. Admittedly, I’m not my best in the morning, so I needed a little help.
Once I discovered that “out of sight, out of mind” was likely contributing to my growing collection of never-worn earrings, I decided to display them on a pretty jewelry tray. Unfortunately, the tray made losing earring matches a little too easy and I would often huff about my dresser in the early morning light, searching fruitlessly for a set of matching earrings. Eventually, I decided to use the tray for perfume bottles.
One night, out of frustration, I decided to use a little ribbon to keep my earrings from getting away from each other by sticking the backs through the fabric and then fastening it in place. It worked. Not only could I hang the ribbon in places where I would never miss it, I could also change the ribbon color to easily match the rest of my room. And when I went traveling, I found it impossibly easy to wrap up the ribbon and put it in a pouch for safekeeping. Now, I wear earrings everyday and I never lose a single one.
I hope this tip will be of some help and if you have any jewelry storage ideas, let me know in the comments!
