This time of the year the temperature goes a little crazy where I live; one day it’s almost triple-digit-sweltering hot outside and the next it’s cool and breezy. These fluctuations definitely play a role in how moisturized my skin feels. The colder and windier it gets, the dryer my skin and the hotter it gets– you get the picture.
I like to give myself a facial every weekend and face masks play a crucial in that process, helping me to clear impurities, fight inflammation and improve clarity. These days I find myself going back and forth between the SheaMoisture Peace Rose Oil Sensitive Skin Mud Mask and Origins Clear Improvement Active Charcoal Mask. (Note: If you’re wondering– I am currently laying off my Aztec Secret / apple cider vinegar mask as it was becoming a bit too irritating with my current skin routine)
SheaMoisture Peace Rose Oil Sensitive Skin Mud Mask
The SheaMoisture Peace Rose Oil mask is great for when my skin feels dry and thus needs a bit more nourishment. The mask definitely smells like rose oil, which can either be a little bit of heaven or a little overwhelming depending on how well you tolerate a strong rose fragrance. For me, it’s a nice aromatherapy interlude during my facial. I know that some people have experienced a burning sensation while the mask is drying– to be honest, I have a very high tolerance for this feeling because of regular chemical peels and retinoid use, so I wouldn’t trust my judgement. However, I’ve never noticed any irritation after using the mask. In fact, my skin usually feels so moisturized and soft to the touch when I remove this mask that I just end up wanting to put it on again.
Origins Clear Improvement Active Charcoal Mask
Origins Clear Improvement mask is amazing on days when I lean a little too close to my magnifying mirror and thus get a terrifying tour of my pores. I wouldn’t say that I have very visible pores but any time I have even a little congestion– the blackheads come out in full force on my nose. There is something very satisfying about covering those blackheads in a mask, knowing that they’ll be mostly gone within ten minutes. If you have truly stubborn blackheads, the annoying kind that require extraction (I had one of these last month)– this can be a good supplement to your skincare routine but it won’t completely clear your pores.
Let me know if have any questions about either mask and be sure to leave a comment if you have a good mud or clay mask to recommend! Thanks for reading.
